Sylvia Simone is the voice of middays on “The Rhythm”107.5FM WGPR.
Sylvia comes to WGPR with more than 17 years in the radio industry; a career that she says chose her. While attending Specs Howard for television commercial production, one of her professors (who happened to be program director at a local station) told Sylvia that she had the perfect voice for radio. After graduation and before she could even apply for a television production position, she received an offer for an on-air position and her radio career was born.
She has worked in the Detroit market at a number of stations, and in varying formats. Additionally, she has lent her voice to past/present endorsements that include Ford Motor Company, Nissan, McDonald’s, Target stores, Mr., Coffee, Metabo-Life diet system, Popeye’s Chicken, American Express, Remy Martin and Couvoisier, among others.
Sylvia’s off-air interests centers around her family and community. She enjoys jogging, reading, gardening, volunteering time with those less fortunate, seniors, children and has volunteered with the Salvation Army for more than 12 years.
Sylvia is also a former United States Marine, where she also received media and broadcast training, and she was an Olympic track hopeful in 1980. Sylvia is a graduate of Perhsing High School, and attended Oakland University and Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts.
A resident of Detroit, she is married and the mother of three and proudly considers her mother, Rosemary Brown, her role model.
